چکیده

Using laboratory data for the scattering of O by O2, CO and N2 pair potentials are constructed for O, C and N atoms. These potentials are then used to calculate collisional dissociation and energy transfer cross sections for O on O2, CO and N2; O2 on O2, N on N2, and N2 on N2. Since the energetic ions often neutralize in the atmosphere corona, such cross sections are relevant to plasma ion bombardment of the atmospheres of Mars, Titan, Triton and Europa. c © 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Methane monitoring by near infrared photoacoustic spectroscopy: The importance of relaxation phenomena

The importance of molecular relaxation in photoacoustic spectroscopy is discussed. The particular case of methane monitoring in dry oxygen using a 1.65m laser-based photoacoustic sensor is reported. The slow vibration-to-translation energy transfer occurring in this gas mixture results in a drastic reduction of the detection sensitivity. A quadratic response of the sensor to the methane concent...

Evidence for involvement of gut-associated denitrifying bacteria in emission of nitrous oxide (N(2)O) by earthworms obtained from garden and forest soils.

Earthworms (Aporrectodea caliginosa, Lumbricus rubellus, and Octolasion lacteum) obtained from nitrous oxide (N(2)O)-emitting garden soils emitted 0.14 to 0.87 nmol of N(2)O h(-1) g (fresh weight)(-1) under in vivo conditions. L. rubellus obtained from N(2)O-emitting forest soil also emitted N(2)O, which confirmed previous observations (G. R. Karsten and H. L. Drake, Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 6...

Microsolvation of Co2+ and Ni2+ by acetonitrile and water: photodissociation dynamics of M(2+)(CH3CN)n(H2O)m.

The microsolvation of cobalt and nickel dications by acetonitrile and water is studied by measuring photofragment spectra at 355, 532 and 560-660 nm. Ions are produced by electrospray, thermalized in an ion trap and mass selected by time of flight. The photodissociation yield, products and their branching ratios depend on the metal, cluster size and composition. Proton transfer is only observed...

Dichlorido(dimethylglyoximato-κ2 N,N′)(dimethylglyoxime-κ2 N,N′)cobalt(III)

In the title compound, [Co(C(4)H(7)N(2)O(2))Cl(2)(C(4)H(8)N(2)O(2))], the Co(III) ion has a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. The equatorial plane consists of four N atoms, two each from the dimethyl-glyoxime and dimethyl-glyoximate ligands, while the two axial positions are occupied by two chloride ions. Strong intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are observed between the dimethy...
